Francis “Frankie” Nicholls, better known by his stage name Frankie Knuckles, was an American DJ, record producer, and remixer. He performed an important role in promoting and spreading house music in Chicago during the 1980s when the genre was in its opening.Due to his fame in the development of the genre, Knuckles was “The Godfather of House Music” for music enthusiast. In 1991, Knuckles engaged with Virgin Records, enhancing one of the first DJs to sign to a major label. In 2005, Knuckles was recruited into the Dance Music Hall of Fame for his achievements.He is the first one to receive a Grammy award for Remixer of the Year, Non-Classical.(now termed Best Remixed Recording) in 1997.
